The fishing Mini-game game in Stardew Valley is one of the easiest and most fun ways to earn money. The fishing mechanics are pretty straightforward, so any player, even a noob level one, will get a gist of the game pretty soon.
That said, the mini-game also requires some skill and prior experience if you seriously want to optimize your time while fishing!
Stardew Valley is one of those games that rewards you for creating your strategies and implementing them. This has led to many players coming up with new and exciting techniques that help them optimize their experience in the game.
Let’s face it, Though the game is excellent, you’d rather be doing some fun activities than grinding for money.
And fishing sounds cool at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is just a grind so that you earn some cash. So we decided to bring you the best techniques you should use in your Stardew Valley world and make the most out of the visits you make to fish.
This will leave you with tons of cash, in fact so much so that you’d be overwhelmed, and also a lot of time, which is precious. You can use this time to enjoy the activities you really love!
Fishing in Stardew Valley
It’s your first year in Stardew Valley; you are very optimistic over the prospects of your playthrough; you’ve finally started to get some stuff done.
Fishing may seem hard at first, but once you have the gear and some technique and, most importantly, practice, you’ll be on your way to becoming a great fisherman and earning a lot of gold in the process.
As you know, there are three different fishing spots in the game and four different seasons, which affect the fishes you could be getting. Also, rains affect the type of fish you catch.
This is both a good and a bad thing. The good thing because now you’d have to wait for it to rain if you want a fish that is only available in the rain. On the other hand, this makes the pool of fish you can draw from really small.
So, if there is so much variation in the fishes (and subsequently the amount of gold you’d get from them) we get from fishing at a different time and place, which spot is the best? Does it even matter to switch an area? Or is fishing anywhere the same?
Let’s find some answers, and once you’re done with this blog, you’ll have a brief understanding of what to do!
Best fishing spots, depending on the season and weather
By now, you already know about the effects of the weather and season on the type of fish you can catch. So if anyone gives you a fixed spot to catch fish every season and every climate, they are giving you the wrong information.
Because the best way to achieve a lot of efficiency in fishing in Stardew Valley is by switching spots depending upon the season and the weather.
So we made a detailed guide of which spot is the best for which season, and which spot is the best when it rains.
We ranked these spots using a simple yet pretty effective technique; using this technique, we have been able to catch a lot of great fish every time we felt like fishing. So it is a tried and tested formula.
We will choose the best spot for fishing by ranking the amount of gold you can get from the fish (adding up the total of every type of fish). The amount of experience will also be considered, and so will the difficulty as well. And in the end, we’ll show you which spot is the best!
I. Spring
Spring, is the most modest of all the seasons in the game. It is nice and warm, and you get a lot of stuff done on your base and earn a lot of gold. Though it is the best season for some activities, these activities don’t include fishing. But still, there are some fish which can give you a lot of money, let’s take a look at them!
1. Lake
Fish you can catch:
- Largemouth Bass
- Carp
- Bullhead
- Chub.
The lake is probably the first place that comes to mind when you pick a spot for fishing. The total gold you get from selling these fishes is 255, and the experience you’d get is also a decent 59. The same is true when raining, except you also get the legendary!
2. Ocean
Fish you can catch:
- Anchovy
- Sardine
- Herring
- Flounder
- Halibut.
The total gold you get from selling all these fishes is 280, and the experience is 75. If you manage to catch an eel while it’s raining, the number bumps up to 365 gold, and the exp also goes up to 101!
3. River
Fish you can catch:
- Bream
- Smallmouth bass
- Chub.
In the rain:
- Shad
- Catfish.
In the sun:
The river has some great fish; the total gold you can earn is 145 and 405 when raining. The experience you get is 40 and 2018 when it’s raining.
So as you’ve seen for yourself, it looks like the best spots are divided into two categories. One where you should go when it’s not raining, and one where you should go when it’s raining.
Basically, on a typical day, you should go to the Ocean, and when it’s raining, you should head out to the River and try catching a Catfish! Though it is difficult to see one, when you get it, it will be worth it. If you don’t feel like you can catch one, go back to the ocean when it’s raining!

This way, you’ll be able to maximize the amount of gold that you could earn from fishing in the Fall.

The river isn’t that interesting in the winter season; the total amount of gold you could earn is 670 on normal days vans 775 on rainy ones. The experience you could make is 140 on average and 158 on rainy days.
This is not a great increment, but it is something, regardless, the river just isn’t the best spot for the winter season.
So, taking into account the amount of gold, experience, and difficulty catching certain fish in the winter season. The best spot seems to be the Lake, in both weather conditions. Whether it be rain or sun, the lake is where you should be if you want to earn a fat head of gold coins by selling fish!
