Minecraft is the quintessential sandbox game. Ever since its release, it has been a favorite fan game. The community surrounding Minecraft is vast, and the developers keep updating the game every year so that the players never have to regurgitate the same old content.
Minecraft is a game about mining and crafting at its simplest, so it becomes necessary for the player to optimize these tasks. For this, the developers added the concept of enchantments to the game, which enhances the tools and armor of the player.
These enchantments provide a much-needed boost to the player, especially if you’re new to the game. Enchantments have a wide range of uses, ranging from increasing the durability of your armor to making your Sword sharper!

They can’t even breathe for more than 15 seconds underwater; due to this, it becomes harder to explore the oceans, which have become beautiful and fun after the Aquatic Update!
To get around this issue, the devs added a good amount of enchantments to the game to do our thing underwater.

What does Aqua Affinity do in Minecraft?
Remember being underwater and not being able to mine blocks? That’s the reason why this enchantment exists.
Underwater our mobility decreased, and it only makes sense that ur mining speed would decrease. But once you have an aqua affinity, you’d be able to mine faster than before. Actually, you’d be able to mine at the same speeds at which you drill in the overworld!
Before this enchantment, building anything in the ocean was a nightmare. Oceans are beautiful, especially coral reefs, but it would take you a lot of time to break them if you accidentally place a block in the wrong spot. (Just imagine breaking obsidian underwater!)
How to get Aqua Affinity?
Aqua affinity is a weird enchantment, and aqua affinity You’d only issued on the helmet or leather cap. And getting this enchantment is a tedious task as well; you’d have to grind near the enchantment table for a long time to get it. So make sure you have a lot of levels before you start trying!
Is there Aqua Affinity 3?
Aqua Affinity only has 1 level and that’s it; you issued can’t go beyond level one, no matter how many times you try. Regardless of the level, you don’t even need Aqua Affinity 2 or 3 because the level 1 enchantment will make your mining speed equivalent to the mining speed on the ground.
If you want to increase your mining speed even more, then just enhance your Pickaxe. Get a netherite pickaxe with the highest levels of enchantments, and you’ll get a great mining speed. Furthermore, you can set up a conduit to increase your Mining speed.
Can you get Aqua Affinity and Respiration?
Yes, you can get both the enchantments on the same helmet simultaneously; actually, it is encouraged as it will make you even more efficient than before underwater; you’d be able to mine much faster and stay underwater for more extended periods!
Furthermore, Respiration has three levels, so getting the maximum level should be your top priority if you’re building an underwater base. But, first, let’s take a look at the various difference between Aqua Affinity and Respiration!
|Has 1 level||Has three levels|
|It can only be used on Helmets||It can only be used on helmets|
|Increases mining speed underwater||It does not increase mining speed underwater|
|It does not help in breathing underwater||It helps in breathing underwater|
|It doesn’t help with drowning damage||Help’s with drowning damage!|
|The weight of the enchantment is 2||The importance of the enchantment is 2|
Respiration enchantment in Minecraft explained
The aquatic update added life to the ocean, which wasn’t there before; players now like to venture deep into the ocean and go on an adventure to find sunken ships and the precious treasure hidden in them. But as the player can’t breathe for a long time, they constantly need to go up to grasp some air.
This ruins the fun you were having, so some enchantments are what you need. The name Respiration is pretty self-exp[lanatory, the enchantment will let you breathe for a longer time when underwater. The enchantment can be obtained via enchanted books or by using the enchanting table.
The enchantment is a Helmet exclusive; you can’t enchant any other item with respiration. The enchantment becomes powerful once you start to level up. The respiration enchantment has three levels to it, each level increasing the breathing time by 15 seconds.
The player can already hold their breath for 15 seconds, and this just adds more time.
So basically, if you have the highest possible enchantment on the helmet, which is Respiration III, you can stay underwater for a whopping 1 minute, which may not sound like a lot, but it is 3 times more than what it originally was. You can further increase this time by 10 seconds by wearing a turtle shell.
Is Aqua Affinity better than Respiration?
Is football better than a burger? No right, there’s no answer to the question as there is no correlation between them. Aqua Affinity and Respiration are two different enchantments affecting different aspects of the game; having one over the other is feasible in certain situations, but you can also have them both at the same time.
As mentioned above, Aqua Affinity provides the player away so that he can mine faster underwater. Respiration, simultaneously, on the other hand, increases the breathing time with every level. Hence there is no way to conclude that one enchantment is better than the other.
And if you’re building something underwater, booth these enchantments become a necessity. Hence the best way to play would be to get both of these in your netherite helmet so that it lasts long!
What does Aqua Affinity cancel?
Aqua Affinity cancels the Mining Block that you get when underwater. It’s a huge deal breaker as there are so many resources just waiting to be mined I the ocean floor and ravines. Especially in the new caves and cliffs update, there are many new ways to find help, and one of them is being underwater.
Aqua Affinity comes in handy in such situations; it eliminates the mining block for you and lets you mine to your heart’s content.
When building a base underwater, it becomes essential to have respiration and aqua affinity on your helmet and, if possible, a conduit. A conduit will let you swim faster, breathe underwater, and mine more quickly.
This combination is the best for ocean enthusiasts in Minecraft. With this set, you can basically become a mermaid and live underwater forever; there’s plenty of food available there as well!
Aqua Affinity is an enchantment which if used correctly, can exponentially improve your productivity underwater, and this becomes important when you undertake big projects underwater and when going to farm for some resources underwater.
With the new caves and cliffs update, the ore generation will change drastically, and you’d have to go underwater to mine ores; in such situations, Aqua Affinity will serve its purpose well, so before the update drops this year, make sure you have this enchantment on your helmet.
