Despite being a game that was originally released in 2013, Warframe is one of the most active third-person role-playing video games in 2021.
That is, of course, thanks to the fact that they adapt to the times and had a recent revamp that allowed it to look and feel like a modern game instead of something that came out two generations ago. But even before that, thanks to constant updates and a free-to-play model, the game was very much filled with a dedicated player base even back then.
One of the most important features in 2021 for any game is to have cross-platform capabilities which would allow it to be played by friends who own different platforms.
The time where everyone bought an entire device just to play with their friends is long gone, and people prefer having the accessibility of being able to compete and cooperate with their friends irrespective of what machine they own. Not only that, but it’s generally a healthy thing for the video game itself to have a larger player base this way, as more people would join to play with their friends.
So, the obvious question is brought up – does Warframe have cross-play multiplayer or not? Let’s take a look at the official sources and find the answer to that question.

Before we get into the main topic, let’s take a moment to elaborate on what cross-play really is for those who might be unaware.
Cross-play and cross-progression are two important things that are becoming arguably more common today than they ever were before, but it’s still something that the majority of online games lack at the time.
Cross-play or cross-platform essentially means that the player has the ability to play the same game on different platforms, and they can still play with their friends irrespective of what console or computer that they’re on. Of course, they still need to have the same game version, but their brand of hardware will not limit their ability at all.
Cross-progression means that the person will be able to log into the game on multiple devices and instead of having to start over – their progress will be in sync with everything that they did on the previous machine. Unlike cross-play, though, this capability is less common to find. And the last thing to know is that both of these features can have limitations too, but often you’ll find them properly implemented.
Now that we have that out of the way, we can get back to the original question and answer it right now!
Is Warframe Cross-Play?
Unfortunately, despite being a game that is released on so many platforms – it does not support cross-play. You cannot play with people on different platforms and only with people who are on the same brand as you.
Warframe is a game that is available on many different platforms. It was originally released on PC and then found its way on PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One around the same time. Then it was also released on the Nintendo Switch in 2018, 5 years after the previous consoles. Finally, it was released for the 9th generation of consoles last year which is the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X.
However – there is one exception and that is between the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions, which allow you to transfer your save files between the two generations of consoles and also play with players on both ends.
And additionally, the game allows you to transfer your in-game account only once – between any platform that you want. Since the game has different versions on each platform, this process can only be done once and you won’t be able to take it back – but if you want to migrate to a better platform, this is your one-way ticket into it.
Lastly, the game also does not support cross-progression in any way outside of the ability to migrate to PlayStation 5 from PlayStation 4, so any progress that you have on one brand of consoles will unfortunately remain there.
And that answers all of the questions – Warframe does not have cross-platform multiplayer. We hope that you found this guide useful, and while you’re here, don’t forget to check out some of our other helpful gaming guides too!
