Is MultiVersus Cross-Platform? (PS4, PC, XBOX, Switch)

For the longest time, Super Smash Bros. has dominated the crossover fighting game genre.

Many others have tried to replicate its success over time, such as Brawlhalla and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl – but they have not managed to appeal to gamers in the same way as Super Smash Bros. has throughout the years.

That was until MultiVersus came to the scene. Being a free-to-play crossover fighting game that is available on many platforms, MultiVersus has found a great deal of success and is currently the most-played fighting game of all time on the PC platform alone. All of this is thanks to its fun gameplay, attractive graphics, and a great roster of characters that we all know and love from WB.

So, when an online competitive game like MultiVersus is so popular, everyone wants to know one thing: does it feature cross-platform multiplayer? After all, no one should have to buy a different piece of hardware just to be able to play with their friends in 2022!

So, does MultiVersus have cross-play or not? Let’s answer that question by taking a look at the official sources!

MultiVersus Cross-Play Explained

If you’re unaware of what cross functions are in video games, we’re going to take a short moment to explain that. But if you’re already aware of what all of this means, scroll down to the next section for the answer to the main question!

There are three types of cross functionalities in games. Cross-play means that players have the ability to play with their friends on any platform as long as they are all on the same version of the game.

Cross-generation multiplayer means that you can play with your friends as long as you’re on the same brand of consoles. For example, someone on an Xbox One can play with their friends on an Xbox Series X, but not with someone on a PlayStation 4.

And lastly, there’s cross-progression which means that players can share their progress among different platforms.

Now that we know what all of this means, let’s answer whether MultiVersus has cross-platform multiplayer or not right away.

Is MultiVersus Cross-Play?

MultiVersus is currently available on the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.

MultiVersus features cross-platform multiplayer on all platforms. That means MultiVersus includes cross-play between the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. And of course, this also means it has cross-generation multiplayer as people using PlayStation and Xbox consoles can play with other people on the same brand but on a different console.

Lastly, MultiVersus features cross-progression too which means that you can have shared progress across all platforms that it’s on. For example, you can level up on an Xbox and then have that progress saved for you on a PlayStation console.

Is MultiVersus coming to Nintendo Switch?

There are currently no plans to bring MultiVersus to the Nintendo Switch. However, this is not the final decision, and the developers might bring the game to the Nintendo Switch console at a later time!

The reason behind this was stated to be limited time and resources by one of the developers of the game.

Is MultiVersus on Xbox Game Pass?

MultiVersus is a free-to-play game on every platform. Though it does have in-game purchases and a paid Founder’s Pack – it’s ultimately free to play if you don’t want to spend any money and that includes the Xbox platform too.

So, it does not need to be on the Xbox Game Pass for the time being.
