Resident Evil 4 Remake comes with many exciting additions to the core gameplay, and there are minor story differences too. But none of the changes raised as many eyebrows as the breakable knife, which is something no one expected.
Not only is the knife a great way to save ammo – it’s also something that the Resident Evil community uses a lot. There are hundreds of knife-only runs of every Resident Evil game on the internet; some even use it for speedrunning strategies. So, when players found out that the knife in Resident Evil 4 Remake can break, their reactions were mixed.
Fortunately, you can repair your knife in Resident Evil 4 Remake and use it again. And you can upgrade the knife too, which adds more power to it and makes it more durable too – which means that it starts to break less over time.

How to Repair Your Knife in Resident Evil 4 Remake
If you broke your knife in Resident Evil 4 Remake – you’re not alone. If you parry attacks and use your knife for enemy takedowns, it eventually breaks down after a few uses. Though it’s initially confusing, the game tells you it can be repaired when the time is right.
To repair your knife in Resident Evil 4 Remake, you must visit the Merchant when the game introduces him. You can’t miss him, so don’t worry about where or when you’d find him as the game highlights him the first time around.
Once you open the Merchant’s shop, head over to the ‘Tune Up’ section and access your knife. In there, you can find the “Repair” option. Repairing does not cost anything the first time around, so you don’t have anything to worry about.
Until your knife is repaired, you can find a Kitchen Knife too which has even less durability but lets you protect yourself when out of ammo for a little while.
You can find the Kitchen Knife in a tunnel located at the right side of the village, where the TMP could be found in the demo of the game.
How to Upgrade Your Knife in Resident Evil 4 Remake
Knives are upgradeable in Resident Evil 4 Remake and the process to do that is fortunately very easy.
All that you need to do to upgrade your knife in Resident Evil 4 Remake is to head to the Merchant and access his shop. As mentioned above, it’s impossible to miss him the first time around so you don’t have to worry about finding him.
You need 10000 Pesetas (ptas.) to upgrade the power of your knife in Resident Evil 4 Remake, which deals more damage to enemies. And if you want to increase the durability of your knife, you need 5000 Pesetas (ptas.).
After the durability is maxed out, your knife will last far longer than before when put to extensive use, such as in parries and takedowns.
Other knives in Resident Evil 4 Remake are upgraded in the same way too, as they appear besides the default Combat Knife.
And that’s how you repair and upgrade your knife in Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Though having a stronger knife is a no-brainer, make sure to be mindful of how you spend your Pesetas. Because like every other resource in the game, the amount you get is limited.
