Resident Evil 7 may look and feel a bit different than what we have been seeing in the franchise for the past few games, but that does not mean that everything about it is different. If you ever went back to almost any Resident Evil game after beating it for the first time, you must have noticed how there are many different post-game things to unlock and use which gives you more incentive to finish it again.
Whether it’s a special weapon, a secret ending to unlock, harder difficulties, or unique conditions – there’s always something to go back for and Resident Evil 7 has a fair share of such things too which are spread throughout the entire game and its subsequent playthroughs.
One of the most popular ones is the Infinite Ammo cheat, which allows you to breeze through the game and greatly helps achievement hunters save their time.
Much like anything else in the game, unlocking Infinite Ammo takes a bit of time and effort, since you will have to complete a set of unique requirements which will finally end with you gaining the cheat once and for all. Of course, realizing every specific requirement can take an unreasonable amount of time if done without guidance – so we’ve created a complete list of everything that you need to do to unlock the cheat.
Without wasting any more time with introductions, let’s jump right into it!
How to Get Infinite Ammo in Resident Evil 7
Before you can unlock Infinite Ammo, you need to unlock the ‘Madhouse’ difficulty of the game first and play through it as you cannot gain this cheat otherwise. There are many specific things in the game that can only be seen and interacted with in specific conditions, such as how the location of the Madhouse Coins is completely randomized compared to the main game in the aforementioned difficulty setting.
1. Unlock the Madhouse difficulty

- Push the limits of your system like never before.
The first thing that you need to do here is to beat the game on any difficulty that you want. Doing so will unlock the Madhouse difficulty. If you’re in a rush and wish to unlock Infinite Ammo very fast, then beating the game on Easy mode the first time around is probably the best thing to do. This is certainly recommended if you’ve beaten the game before but don’t have the save file for it.
However, beating the game on the Normal difficulty unlocks ‘The Secrets of Defense’ which increases your guard action effectiveness when equipped on Ethan (not inside the inventory), so you might want to have that by your side.
2. Beat the Madhouse difficulty
Once you have the Madhouse difficulty unlocked, you need to play through the entire game and finish it once more. As you’d expect, enemies are stronger and deadlier this time around and autosaving is much less frequent. Not only that, but Cassette Recorders will now require tapes for every time that you want to manually save the game.
Aside from the suggestion of playing safe in general, the only thing that can be said is that you should use the Albert-01R Handgun which you unlock after beating the game for the first time – but since it’s a limited weapon, you need to be very strategic with it.
3. Unlocking Infinite Ammo
Once you’ve beaten the Madhouse difficulty, congratulations! Now you’ve unlocked the Infinite Ammo cheat for all of your weapons that use ammunition by default. You don’t have to go to any specific place to earn it or any extra requirements, simply beating the game on this difficulty unlocks Infinite Ammo right away.
The only catch here is that the Infinite Ammo does not apply to Chainsaw Fuel, since it has a separate unlockable advantage that has a different method entirely. But for every other weapon, you’ll be good to go and very well-prepared for future playthroughs and achievement hunting.
