Red Dead Redemption 2 was an instant classic when it was released. Rockstar games know what the players want, and they deliver products that far surpass our expectations. Red Dead Redemption is just another such game in their portfolio.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is the sequel to the 2010 game, which went by the same name. The sequel is set in 1899 America when people still rode on horses. The game follows a group of bandits who rob, steal, and fight their way to get their hands on some money.
The game is primarily single-player focused a sit follows a story, but there also is a multiplayer option available. So you can connect to the internet and play with your friends who own the game.
Still, there’s one problem, Red Dead Redemption isn’t cross-platform, i.e., it doesn’t allow cross-play functionality.
Is Red Dead Redemption 2 Cross-Play Enabled?
No Red Dead Redemption isn’t cross-platform, so you can’t connect with people who are on different consoles even though you both own the game but just have other devices to play the game on.
This is a huge bummer as not everyone will have the same console.
And the worst part is, Rockstar games hasn’t shown any interest in allowing the cross-play functionality to the players. Cross-play would’ve allowed the players to connect with their friends on different consoles or even on PC at least, but the fact of the matter is, there isn’t such feature in the game.
The Real Reason Why Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t Cross-Platform
Microsoft and Sony are staunch competitors; they don’t want cross-play enabled on games as it will boost the competition’s sales.
This is the reason why most companies don’t go for crossplay. Because some industry insiders have also made it public that Microsoft and Sony charge money in royalty fees for enabling cross-play.
Apart from the competitive nature of the console-making companies, there are also a lot of technical issues. The consoles are different from each other, and so is the PC, so rather than having a product that isn’t up to the mark, they just never made it.
Is Red Dead Redemption 2 Cross-Platform on the Xbox console family?
The game isn’t available on the Xbox 360, as it was only released for the Xbox One. Still, it also made its way to the latest Xbox generations as they support backward compatibility. Though the game won’t let you cross-play between Playstation and the Xbox, you can cross-play between an Xbox One and the Xbox X/S.
Is Red Dead Redemption 2 Cross-Platform on Playstation Console family?
The game isn’t available on the PS3 and has only been released for the PS4. Still, the PS5 supports the game via backward compatibility. Though the game doesn’t allow crossplay between rival consoles, you can cross-play between a PS5 and a PS4!
Is Red Dead Redemption 2 Cross-Platform from console to PC?
Though Red Dead Redemption 2 allows cross-play between the same consoles families, the PC players are out of luck in this regard as there is no way to crossplay between a PC player and a console player. But there is a bright side to this: PC players don’t have to pay extra to access multiplayer online!
On what platforms is Red Dead Redemption available?
The super-hit 2018 Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on all the leading gaming devices like the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox X/S, PC, and Stadia. The game isn’t available on the Switch as the console wouldn’t support a triple-A title like it.
